Short answer

Frost Fire repairs and replaces AC systems, gas furnaces and heat pumps in Heritage, the large Wake Forest neighborhood. It takes about 44 minutes to drive from our Clayton shop to central Wake Forest without traffic, and we book same-day when there's room. Call (919) 230-4439 or book online. Sunday visits cost the same as weekdays. Many Heritage homes still have systems from the 2000s, so a lot of our advice here is about when to stop repairing.

How old a typical Heritage system is

Wake County's October 2026 real estate extract shows 2,833 residential parcels in Heritage. The median home was built in 2008. The middle 80% were built from 2003 to 2016, and the earliest homes the county records are from 2001. By decade: 1,536 homes from the 2000s, 1,161 from the 2010s and 136 from the 2020s. (The neighborhood is sometimes said to have started in the late 1990s; county data doesn't show that.)

A central air conditioner or heat pump in this climate usually lasts somewhere in the teens of years, and a gas furnace often lasts longer. For more than half of Heritage, the original equipment is 15 to 23 years old. Three things follow from that:

  • Outdoor units made before 2010 may hold R-22, a refrigerant that is no longer produced. Recharging a leaking R-22 system is expensive and only buys time.
  • When a compressor or a coil fails on a system this old, we give you the repair price and a replacement option together. You decide; we don't push.
  • Homes from the 2010s are at mid-life. That's the time for capacitors, contactors and drain lines, and for a maintenance visit that checks the refrigerant charge before summer.

Two towns permit work in Heritage

About 90% of Heritage parcels are inside Wake Forest town limits, and HVAC permits there come from the Town of Wake Forest Inspections Department: online submittal, inspections requested by 3 p.m. for the next business day (919-435-9531). The Heritage East and Regency @ Heritage sections are different. They share the 27587 ZIP code but sit inside Rolesville town limits, so a replacement there goes through Rolesville's zoning review and then Wake County Permits & Inspections. If you aren't sure which section you're in, your tax bill shows the jurisdiction. We check it before we pull a permit.

Townhomes, houses and a few basements

County design codes show about 2,010 single-family homes and about 443 townhouse parcels, including Heritage Crest Townhomes, Wildflower Townes and the Courtyards at Heritage, built 2017 to 2020. The heat type is coded as forced air, and most homes show no basement. There are 86 with a full basement and 27 with a partial one, and in those the furnace or air handler is often down there instead of in the attic or a closet. The records don't say whether a house sits on a crawlspace or a slab.

Electric could be one of three providers

The Wake Forest area has three electric utilities: Wake Forest Power (the town's own utility), Duke Energy Progress and Wake Electric. A Wake Forest Power outage notice lists the Pointe at Heritage along Rogers Rd as its customers. We haven't confirmed the provider for the rest of Heritage, so check your bill or the town's provider-lookup map. For heating fuel, the Census estimates that in ZIP 27587 about 50% of homes heat with utility gas and 43% with electricity (ACS 2024). Gas comes from Enbridge Gas North Carolina, the former PSNC. Which streets have gas isn't confirmed.

Heritage questions

My Heritage home was built around 2005. Should I repair or replace?

It depends on what failed. A capacitor or contactor is a reasonable repair at any age. A compressor, an evaporator coil or an R-22 refrigerant leak on a 20-year-old system usually isn't. We price both options and let you choose.

Is Heritage East permitted by Wake Forest?

No. County records place Heritage East and Regency @ Heritage inside Rolesville town limits, so permits go through Rolesville zoning and Wake County inspections. The rest of Heritage is permitted by the Town of Wake Forest.

Who supplies electricity in Heritage?

Wake Forest Power serves the Pointe at Heritage along Rogers Rd. For other sections it could be Wake Forest Power, Duke Energy Progress or Wake Electric, which we haven't confirmed. Check your bill.

How fast can you get to Heritage?

Wake Forest is about 44 minutes from our Clayton shop without traffic. We book same-day when the schedule allows, and Sundays are the same price.
