Bentwinds HVAC service, Fuquay-Varina
Two generations of homes around Bentwinds Golf & Country Club, one just outside town limits and one inside.
Short answer
Frost Fire services heat pumps, gas furnaces and central air in Bentwinds, the golf community in Fuquay-Varina. We are about 37 minutes (24 miles, free-flowing traffic) from Fuquay-Varina, so we schedule Bentwinds visits ahead rather than promising a 20-minute arrival. Call (919) 230-4439 to book, or use our online form. Weekend and Sunday visits cost what a weekday visit does.
Old Bentwinds and Bentwinds Bluffs are different jobs
The club's members bought the land in 1977, the course was running by 1980, and it became Bentwinds Golf & Country Club in 1986. Homes went up around it over the next four decades, which is why the county's year-built figures for Bentwinds-area parcels run from the 1970s to 2024. The two groupings that matter for heating and cooling:
The older Bentwinds Community sections (about 141 parcels). Built from 1979 onward, with a median around 1999 and two big clusters: 1985 to 1989 and 1995 to 1999. A house from the late 1980s is on its third or fourth decade. Its original heat pump or furnace has very likely been replaced at least once, and some of what we find in homes this age is the result of those earlier swaps: a new outdoor unit matched to an old indoor coil, or ductwork that was never resized when the house got a bigger system.
Bentwinds Bluffs (69 parcels, phases 1 to 3). Built 2017 to 2019. The final phase was marketed by Massengill Design-Build as Craftsman homes with 4 to 6 bedrooms and roughly 2,500 to 3,500+ square feet. Houses that size are commonly built with two systems, one per floor. That doubles the filters, drains and thermostats to look after. If the equipment is original, it is only seven to nine years old.
What Wake County's records say about these houses
- Practically every Bentwinds home is a single-family house.
- In the older sections, 126 of 141 records are coded "no basement," with a few full or partial basements. The code does not separate crawlspace from slab, so we do not know which you have until we look.
- Every coded home lists forced-air heat with separate air conditioning. The county does not say whether that heat is a gas furnace or a heat pump.
- The utility code is telling. In the older sections, 128 of 141 records show electric service only, versus "all utilities" on all 69 Bluffs records. That is an assessor field, not proof of a gas line, but it lines up with what we would expect: older homes mostly electric, Bluffs homes more likely to have gas available.
We have no completed jobs in Bentwinds on record, so we are not going to describe "typical Bentwinds repairs." What we can say is that the jobs will look different on each side: replacement planning and duct questions in the 1980s and 1990s homes; maintenance, drains and two-zone balance in the Bluffs.
Permits: in town or in the ETJ
Most older Bentwinds parcels have no city on the tax record. They sit outside Fuquay-Varina's corporate limits but inside its extraterritorial jurisdiction (133 of 141 show planning jurisdiction FV). Bentwinds Bluffs is inside town limits. Both point to the Town of Fuquay-Varina Inspections Department (134 N. Main St., 919-552-1433), which takes applications through its E-Permits portal. Some homes in the wider area around the course are in Wake County's own jurisdiction instead, so we check the planning jurisdiction in Wake iMAPS for your address before filing. The town's 2026-27 fee schedule lists a $100 mechanical permit per trade and a $100 penalty for work done without a permit, so it pays to get it right.
Electric and gas
The Town of Fuquay-Varina says Duke Energy Progress provides electric service in the area. Natural gas is Enbridge Gas North Carolina; older town pages still say Dominion Energy or PSNC, all the same utility under different owners. Gas service to the older Bentwinds streets is not confirmed.
Where to go next: heat pump service, ductwork, maintenance plans.
Bentwinds FAQ
My Bentwinds address has no city on the tax bill. Who issues the HVAC permit?
Most older Bentwinds parcels are outside Fuquay-Varina town limits but inside its ETJ, so the Town of Fuquay-Varina Inspections Department still handles the permit. We confirm each address in Wake County iMAPS first.
My home in the older section is from the late 1980s. Should I repair or replace?
It depends on the age of the current equipment, not the house. Most 1985 to 1989 Bentwinds homes have already had at least one replacement. We check the model dates and the indoor coil match before recommending either.
Do Bentwinds Bluffs homes have two HVAC systems?
We have not confirmed it house by house. Bluffs homes run roughly 2,500 to 3,500+ square feet, a size often built with one system per floor. We service both on the same visit.
