- Size it to the house, not the old label. Builder systems are sometimes sized by rule of thumb. A replacement should be sized from a load calculation, not by copying the old tonnage, so ask anyone quoting you whether they ran one.
- Repair first when it makes sense. A 2014 heat pump with a failed capacitor needs a capacitor, not a new system. We will tell you which side of that line you are on.

We also have not confirmed which homes have gas furnaces versus heat pumps, whether a given street has gas service, or crawlspace versus slab foundations.
