What and where Eagle Rock is

Eagle Rock isn't a subdivision with a builder and an HOA. It's a historic unincorporated community about four miles east of Knightdale, south-east of the US 64 / US 64 Business interchange. We serve it on our east-of-Raleigh routes, but our records don't show a completed job here yet, so there are no local job stories on this page.

Old rural homes, not new builds

Wake County's real estate data lists 114 residential parcels whose legal description includes "Eagle Rock." Their age profile looks nothing like the new subdivisions around Wendell:

By comparison, the Census puts the median home inside Wendell's town limits at about 2010.

The county's utility codes on 74 of those Eagle Rock records show 8 coded "no heating" and 7 "no air conditioning," and 3 on pier foundations. Some of those may be outbuildings or churches. Still, a share of the older housing here was never fully set up for central heat and air.

What that means for your system

  • Adding central air to an older house. If you're one of the homes with no AC or heat on record, a ducted heat pump is usually the most practical full-house option. The work is in routing ducts through the crawlspace or attic and checking that the electrical panel can carry it. Our AC installation page covers what's involved.
  • Old ducts in old houses. Homes from the 1950s–1970s often have ductwork that has been patched many times. Leaks and crushed runs cause weak airflow and high bills. See ductwork repair.
  • Pier foundations. On a pier-and-beam house, ducts and refrigerant lines run underneath, open to animals and weather. We check insulation and supports along with the equipment.

We haven't confirmed whether Eagle Rock homes are mostly on crawlspaces or slabs, so we check on the first visit.

Your permit office depends on a planning line

Wake County records put about 59% of Eagle Rock-described parcels in Wendell's ETJ, 38% under Wake County, and a few under other jurisdictions. On Knightdale Eagle Rock Rd itself, most parcels are Wendell ETJ, 47 are county, and 18 are Knightdale.

Wake County's rule is broad. A mechanical permit covers installation, extension, relocation, replacement and general repair of heating, air-conditioning and venting systems. We look up your parcel and pull the right permit.

Power and gas out here

The Town of Wendell lists Duke Energy Progress for electricity and Enbridge Gas North Carolina for gas. Enbridge bought PSNC from Dominion Energy in October 2024, so older papers may say PSNC or Dominion for the same company. Most Eagle Rock parcels are outside town limits, though, and we haven't confirmed either utility at the address level. Wake EMC is possible in eastern Wake, but we haven't confirmed it here. Across the 27591 ZIP, the Census estimates heating at 73% electric, 17% utility gas and 9% propane, and about 11% of housing units are manufactured homes.
