Heat Pump and HVAC Service in Knightdale Station

Most homes in 27545 heat with electricity

The Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey estimates that 68% of occupied homes in ZIP 27545 heat with electricity and about 27% with utility gas. Inside Knightdale town limits it's about 58% electric. Around here, electric heat almost always means a heat pump with backup electric heat strips in the air handler. Wake County codes the heat type as forced air, which doesn't separate gas from heat pump, so check your own equipment.

What that means in winter:

According to Wake County parcel records, the residential phases were built from 2015 to 2025: R-1A from 2015 to 2017, R-3 from 2017 to 2019, R-6 from 2018 to 2024 and R-7 in 2025. The October 2026 extract shows 57 residential parcels, with a median year built of 2016. Dream Finders Homes markets a "Knightdale Station 50'" single-family section. For the earliest phases, the original heat pumps are now about ten years old. That's when reversing valves, outdoor fan motors and capacitors start to fail, and a yearly check of the refrigerant charge pays for itself. We don't know which equipment brands the builders installed.

How a Knightdale permit works

The Town of Knightdale Development Services issues trade permits for HVAC, electrical and plumbing, but they're submitted through the Wake County Permit Portal, and Wake County does the mechanical inspections for the town. Fees are paid through the portal or by check made out to Wake County, and the contractor has to be linked to the permit in the portal. Wake County's cutoff for a next-day inspection request is 3:00 p.m. the business day before. In practice, a heat pump swap here usually means one portal application and a county inspector at the house.

The town's utilities page lists both Duke Energy Progress (800-452-2777) and Wake Electric (800-474-6300). We haven't confirmed which one serves Knightdale Station, and the boundary inside Knightdale isn't published.
