Heat Pump Repair in Flowers Plantation
Every completed call we've had here was a heat pump home, and two of three were no-heat calls.
Short answer

What our Flowers Plantation calls have looked like
All three repair calls we've completed in Flowers Plantation were at homes the county lists as heat pump homes, built in 2018 or 2019. Two of the three were winter-season no-heat complaints, both in the Meadows at Flowers Plantation:
| February 2025 | 2019-built home, Meadows at Flowers Plantation. Customer reported no heat. |
|---|---|
| October 2025 | 2018-built home, Meadows at Flowers Plantation. Customer reported no heat early in the heating season. |
| January 2025 | Third heat pump home in Flowers Plantation, a repair visit; our notes don't record the symptom. |
Our notes from these visits are brief, so we're not going to claim a specific part failed on each one. What we can say is that a heat pump in a 2018 or 2019 house is usually six or seven years old if it's original, and no-heat on a heat pump that age has a short list of usual causes.
Why a six-year-old heat pump stops heating
These are the checks we run on a no-heat call, in roughly the order we run them:
- Thermostat mode and setup. Newer smart thermostats need the right heat pump settings (reversing valve energized on cool or on heat, backup heat staging). A wrong setting can make a healthy heat pump blow cool air in heat mode.
- Outdoor unit iced over. Some frost on a cold, damp morning is normal and the unit should clear it in a defrost cycle. A solid block of ice means defrost isn't working: a sensor, the defrost control board or low refrigerant.
- Capacitor or contactor. If the outdoor fan or compressor doesn't start, these parts are the first suspects even on young equipment.
- Reversing valve. If the system cools fine in summer but won't switch to heat, the valve or its solenoid is the likely problem.
- Backup heat strips. On a cold night the heat strips in the air handler carry part of the load. If a strip or its breaker has failed, the house falls behind even though the heat pump is running.
- Refrigerant charge. A leak shows up as weak heat and long run times. We find the leak before adding refrigerant.

First, make sure it's a heat pump
Flowers Plantation isn't all heat pumps. The county assessor lists 39% of the 1,878 homes here with heat pumps and 61% with ducted forced air, which usually means a gas furnace. If your outdoor unit's label says "heat pump," or the system has no gas line, you're in the right place. If you have a gas furnace, our Flowers Plantation page and heating repair page fit better.
Warranty and replacement on newer homes
Most heat pumps in Flowers Plantation are recent. Before we price a major part like a compressor or coil, we check the manufacturer's warranty status from the model and serial number, because on equipment this young the part itself is often covered and only labor is billed. If a replacement does make sense, the permit comes from Johnston County Building Inspections, since Flowers Plantation is unincorporated county, not the Town of Clayton. The county says simple trade permits can be emailed in. We handle that.
Power here is Duke Energy Progress. After an outage, like the September 2025 one that hit more than 3,000 Duke customers in this area, give the heat pump a few minutes after power returns before deciding it's broken. Some systems wait out a built-in delay before restarting.
"Found very prompt and genuine person, had visited twice to my house without charging any extra money for multiple issues. Explained the problem clearly. Would definitely recommend!"

Heat pump questions from Flowers Plantation
My heat pump is blowing cool air in heat mode. What's wrong?
Check the thermostat is set to heat and isn't calling for cooling. If it is, the usual causes are a reversing valve problem, a defrost problem or failed backup heat. Call us and we'll diagnose it.
Is ice on my outdoor unit normal?
Light frost that clears during a defrost cycle is normal in cold, damp weather. A solid block of ice is not; turn the system to emergency heat and call.
My home was built in 2019. Is my heat pump still under warranty?
Often the parts warranty is still active on equipment that young. We check the model and serial before pricing a major part.
Who permits a heat pump replacement in Flowers Plantation?
Johnston County Building Inspections, because Flowers Plantation is unincorporated county land. We file the permit.
